What kind of work will we be doing?
Our F-Troop projects are primarily meant to bring a group of volunteers together to do a project that’s too big for a section leader and crew to take on alone, such as building large boardwalks and bridges. However, there is always a need for crew members to handle traditional trail work such as lopping and blazing during the project. Our intent is for you to have the opportunity to learn new trail construction skills while having fun with friends. F-Troop is a great opportunity to share construction techniques, learn new carpentry skills, and swap bridge design ideas.
How do I sign up?
Visit the Schedule page on this website and click on the “Register Here” link below the project you are most interested in. This will take you to our on-line registration or send your contact information to us along with the projects you are interested in attending.
How much does it cost to be on the crew?
Nothing! There is no cost for F-Troop participants, but donations are greatly appreciated to help cover the costs of food and supplies.
What are the camping facilities like?
Camping will vary depending on the F-Troop location, sometimes we will be in a developed camping area or county park with restroom and shower facilities and other times in a primitive backcountry camp setting. As always camping is provided free of charge.
What is provided?
All of the food that the crew will need is going to be provided. A kitchen area will be set up at the camp and stocked with campfire feasts and snacks on the go for the trail. We’ll also provide tools, training and safety gear needed for each project. Every member of the crew will also receive an official F-Troop Trail Crew T-shirt or bandana.
Do I need to be in good physical shape?
Yes and no, any kind of trail work requires you to be in good physical condition. However, there will also be a need for base camp support positions. These duties would include helping to prepare meals and performing basic tool maintenance. All helping hands are welcome!
What do I need to bring?
See our PREP page for required and suggested items that you’ll need for your trip. Please print out a copy and make your plans with it!
